Solar site selection data for solar, battery and energy projects
Solar site selection, and siting for battery storage and other generation, means checking existing generation, grid context and environmental constraints before you approach a landowner or file for interconnection.
Solar and battery site selection: the job to be done
Developers of utility-scale solar, battery storage and other generation start from land: large parcels with workable terrain, outside protected areas, close to existing grid infrastructure. Origination teams screen many sites a week and need consistent answers for each.
Korzy brings the plant inventory, regional energy data and environmental screening into the same API as the parcels, so a site can be screened in a few calls.
Questions Korzy answers for solar and battery site selection
- What generation already operates nearby, by technology and nameplate capacity, and which grid it connects to?
- Does the site fall inside a protected area or critical habitat?
- How steep is the parcel, and how much of it is under a slope threshold?
- What are the state energy prices and the transfer capability between regions?
API routes and MCP tools for solar and battery site selection
Each lookup is a REST route and, where named, a tool on the Korzy MCP server. Routes link to their section of the API reference; credits and rate limits covers what each request costs.
| MCP tool | REST route | What it returns |
|---|---|---|
get_power_plant | /api/power/plants/{plant_id} | A plant, its balancing authority and grid owner, and its generators. |
get_plant_energy_history | /api/energy/plants/{plant_id} | Generation, fuel and generator inventory over time for a plant. |
get_regional_energy | /api/energy/regions/{region} | State prices, energy and emissions, or hourly demand and fuel mix. |
get_transfer_capacity | /api/grid/transfers | Interface transfer capability for a date and market. |
get_environment_context | /api/environment/context | Protected areas, critical habitat and air-quality areas at a point, and cleanup sites nearby. |
get_parcel_terrain | MCP only | Slope and elevation analysis over a whole parcel, by korzy_id. |
| REST only | /api/terrain/profile | An elevation profile along a line you draw across the site. |
